If you’ve ever been mid-snack and caught your cat staring at you with those wide, pleading eyes, you know the question: Can I share?
While cats are obligate carnivores—meaning their diet must be primarily meat—there are certain human foods that are safe to share in small amounts, and may even come with some health benefits.
Let’s dig in to some of our favorites.
1. Blueberries – An Antioxidant Burst
Packed with vitamins C and K, plus antioxidants, blueberries can be a tiny treat for cats. Many enjoy them fresh or frozen.
2. Cooked Eggs – A Protein Powerhouse
Scrambled or boiled eggs (plain, no salt, butter, or seasoning) offer high-quality protein and essential amino acids. Just avoid feeding raw eggs due to the risk of bacteria.
3. Papaya – The Hairball Helper
A tropical superfruit in our Tuna & Papaya variety, papaya contains natural enzymes that help break down ingested hair and support healthy digestion. Just a small amount goes a long way.
4. Pineapple – Digestive Support Superstar
Featured in our Tuna & Pineapple variety, pineapple is another enzyme-rich fruit that aids in breaking down proteins and keeping digestion smooth.
5. Pumpkin – Fiber for Digestive Health
Plain, cooked pumpkin puree (no sugar or spices) is excellent for helping with both constipation and diarrhea. It’s a vet-approved home remedy for digestive balance.
6. Olives – Skin & Coat Boost
A star ingredient in our Tuna & Olives variety, olives contain healthy fats and antioxidants that can promote soft, shiny fur and skin health. Bonus: Some cats find olives as stimulating as catnip (they share a similar compound!).
And there you have it! While this isn't a complete list, these are some of our favorites.
Just remember that the human foods in the list are not meant to replace whole meals. Cats need protein! That's why things like papaya, pineapple, and olives are included in our meat based meals in perfect small supplementary amounts; just enough for the benefits, but not too much 😸
